Main activities and responsibilities

Developing and applying methods based on gamma and neutron detection (non-destructive assay, NDA) in the field of nuclear safeguards and combating illicit trafficking of nuclear materials: identification and nuclear-material content determination
Basic research in the field of photoexcitation of isomers of stable nuclides using X-rays, high activity ¹³⁷Cs, ⁶⁰Co and accelerator bremsstrahlung: reaction mechanisms, new nuclear data for nuclear spectroscopy and stellar nucleosenthesis

Accoding to the decree 7/2011.(XII.5.) of the general assembly of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Isotopes and KFKI Atomic Energy Research Institute form a new research center from 1^st January 2012.
