Currency, exchange, credit cards

The official currency in Hungary is the Hungarian Forint (HUF). There are coins to the value of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 forints, and notes for 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000 forints. As the coins with value of 1 and 2 forints are withdrawn from circulation, prices are rounded to the nearest number divisable by five.

Exchange facilities are available at the airport, in hotels, and at the branches of banks. American Express, Visa, Diners, Eurocard, Master Card are generally accepted in hotels, first class restaurants and city stores, but you should look for the appropriate logo before ordering a service.

Tipping

It is a habit to give a tip of 10% over the amount of the bill at restaurants and in taxis.
