The International Symposium on the Industrial Applications of the Mössbauer Effect is a conference series, organised in every fourth year since 1984. The previous locations of the series were Hawaii, Parma, Seta, Johannesburg, Virginia Beach and Madrid. The possibility to organise the seventh conference was awarded to the Hungarian Mössbauer spectroscopists, with the Honorary Chairman Attila Vértes, Chairman: Ernő Kuzmann, and Co-Chairman Károly Lázár.

The program consisted of 21 invited, 43 oral and 120 poster presentations. There were 115 participants registered at the conference, arriving from 25 countries. Beside the 10 professional topics there were two additional ones: one devoted to the 50th anniversary of the discovery of the Mössbauer Effect, and the other devoted to the memory of two prominent Mössbauer spectroscopists deceased in the last year, Ulrich Gonser and Francisco Eiichi Fujita. 6 posters were presented by authoring/coauthoring with the colleagues from the Institute of Isotopes. The proceedings is expected to be published as a conference issue of the Hyperfine Interactions (Springer).

Further details are shown on the home page (www.isiame08.org). Nine pages accounts on the conference and on the Mössbauer-spectroscopy in Hungary in the Newsletter section of the 2008 June issue of the reference journal (MERDJ – vol 31, no 6) of the Mössbauer Effect Data Center (orgs.unca.edu/medc).
